Human Gait During Level Walking With an Occupational Whole-Body Powered Exoskeleton: Not Yet a Walk in the Park

چکیده

With rapid advancements in exoskeleton technologies, a whole-body powered (WB-PEXO) for augmenting human physical capacity (a “super-operator”) is generating increasing attention as an integral part of Industry 4.0. Our understanding WB-PEXO use lagging, however, largely due to the lack detailed evaluations via human-subjects testing WB-PEXO. We examined (independently from manufacturer WB-PEXO) potential impacts using state-of-the-art prototype (pre-alpha version Sarcos Guardian ® XO ) on users ( n=5) during common basic activity workplace, level walking. emphasis “human”, (compared no EXO baseline) were assessed terms lower limb intersegmental coordination, muscle activity, and postural dynamic stability. A larger variance between participants was observed coordination with use, appeared rely more hip motions. When XO, exhibited higher levels groups monitored. Further, there moderate high similarity profiles conditions R XY (?)=0.70-0.92), yet when generally time-lagged those without XO. discuss results within context developing mental model walking aspects human-robot interaction such transparency user state intention. In concluding, we outline several future research topics occupational development.

Human-in-the-loop optimization of exoskeleton assistance during walking.

Exoskeletons and active prostheses promise to enhance human mobility, but few have succeeded. Optimizing device characteristics on the basis of measured human performance could lead to improved designs. We have developed a method for identifying the exoskeleton assistance that minimizes human energy cost during walking. Optimized torque patterns from an exoskeleton worn on one ankle reduced met...

Assessment of In-Hospital Walking Velocity and Level of Assistance in a Powered Exoskeleton in Persons with Spinal Cord Injury.

BACKGROUND Individuals with spinal cord injury (SCI) often use a wheelchair for mobility due to paralysis. Powered exoskeletal-assisted walking (EAW) provides a modality for walking overground with crutches. Little is known about the EAW velocities and level of assistance (LOA) needed for these devices. OBJECTIVE The primary aim was to evaluate EAW velocity, number of sessions, and LOA and th...

Whole-body angular momentum during sloped walking using passive and powered lower-limb prostheses.

Sloped walking requires altered strategies for maintaining dynamic balance relative to level-ground walking, as evidenced by changes in sagittal-plane whole-body angular momentum (H) in able-bodied individuals. The ankle plantarflexor muscles are critical for regulating H, and functional loss of these muscles from transtibial amputation affects this regulation. However, it is unclear if a power...

Assessment of whole-body occupational radiation exposures in nuclear medicine practices of Bangladesh during 2010-2014

Introduction: Occupational exposure to ionizing radiation due to medical activities (both diagnostic and therapeutic procedures) has increased sharply in recent years. Among the occupationally exposed workers in these fields, those most affected by this increased exposure to ionizing radiation are nuclear medicine workers. In this study, annual average effective dose, annual collective effectiv...

The Combined Effects of Body Weight Support and Gait Speed on Gait Related Muscle Activity: A Comparison between Walking in the Lokomat Exoskeleton and Regular Treadmill Walking

BACKGROUND For the development of specialized training protocols for robot assisted gait training, it is important to understand how the use of exoskeletons alters locomotor task demands, and how the nature and magnitude of these changes depend on training parameters. Therefore, the present study assessed the combined effects of gait speed and body weight support (BWS) on muscle activity, and c...
